Site Specific Workshop: Because we live in a time of environmental shift, of social and ecological acceleration — namely, the Anthropocene — imagining the future is challenging. In considering the future, we experience solastalgia: a premonition of change, an anticipation of loss, a sense of powerlessness in the face of unforeseeable circumstances. In this workshop, we will be exploring Lake Mendota through curiosity, experimentation, and documentation. We will draw loosely on limnology to explore how science, through data collection and ongoing observation helps provide documents of what is changing, reliquaries of what we are losing, and also visions of possible futures.
